The film, directed by Ruth Beckermann, shows the tangled web that former UN Secretary www.thewaldheimwaltz.com DIE General Kurt Waldheim became ensnared in by concealing two years of his wartime biography. It shows the swift succession of new allegations by the World Jewish Congress against him, the denial by the Austrian political class, the outbreak of anti-Semitism and patriotism, which finally led to his election. “Waldheim no, Waldheim no” shouts a crowd in the center of Vienna in 1986. Ruth Beckermann was one of the activists trying to prevent the election of Kurt Waldheim and documented the political events with her camera. More than 30 years later she goes back into her own archive and additionally uses international TV-material to analyse this turning point in Austrian political culture. Ruth Beckermann: “When I looked at the material I had shot 30 years ago, I was shocked. Had I really forgotten how easily emotions can be stirred up against others and used by populist politicians? In The Waldheim Waltz I attempt to analyse what was going on back then, things which seem all too familiar in our present day of Trump, Kurz & Strache and other masters of alternative facts and populism.” Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugoez4Yy_0A&feature= youtu.be In theatres: October 5, 2018 Original language: German, English, French Produced by: Ruth Beckermann Film Produktion Austrian distributor: www.filmladen.at World distribution: http://widehouse.org/ www.waldheimswalzer.at/en/home/ © Lukas Beck / Ruth Beckermann Filmproduktion A FILM BY Ruth Beckermann 68 Internationale T H E WALDHEIM POSTER-DESIGN & FONTS Gabriel Type Co. Waves Vienna Music Festival & Conference The Waves Vienna Music Conference, organized for the eighth time by Waves Vienna and Austrian Music Export, will gather hundreds of national and international music experts, organizers, label owners, bookers, and musicians at Vienna‘s WUK. The conference programme will address current issues in the music industry: How to place music in film, television and video games and best practices from the field of sync rights. Is a career as a musician or a job in the live music industry compatible with family? Are music blogs relevant for young music careers, does radio still play a role and if so, which? Questions like those will be discussed and as far as possible answered by international representatives of the music industry in panels, workshops, networking sessions and speed meetings. A panel will use Dives the Austrian band Cari Cari as an example to examine the effects of the music export XA Award, which will be presented for the second time this year as part of Waves Vienna. 100 Acts on 9 stages in the 9th district At the end of September, the Waves Vienna festival will once again make Vienna‘s ninth district a hotspot for musicians and music fans around the world. About one hundred acts will perform in the festival headquarters, the WUK, and in locations nearby. The showcase festival offers a stage for new international and local artists as well as established groups like The Go Team! (UK). More than just a festival, WAVES is a conference and also offers workshops and the Music Hack Day as part of their concept, which is unique in Austria. For this year´s performance the organisers have acquired an Allen & Heath dLive mixing system through the Austrian distributor ATEC Pro Audio. For their six other locations the organizers plan to acquire further dLive systems. The set-up comprises a three-way multi-surface configuration with two dLive S5000s for FOH, operated by Reinhold Schinwald and Florian Kindlinger (FOH engineers), and an additional dLive C1500 on monitors, operated by Heinz Bauer. All three surfaces are connected to a single DM64 MixRack. Also included in the system is an IP8 controller, a DX32 Expander, and SuperMADI, gigaACE and Dante cards for audio distribution. Dr. Edwin Pfanzagl-Cardone (Head of Sound Engineering and Acoustics for the Salzburger Festspielfonds) concludes: “We were Front of house position with dLive Front of house engineers with Dr. Edwin Pfanzagl-Cardone looking for a dual-operator solution with the option to use other remote controls of different sizes throughout the venue and the dLive digital mixing system offers just that.” www.salzburgfestival.at www.allen-heath.com www.atecpro.at © Salzburger Festspiele MEDIA BIZ
