What are the challenges of entering Asian music markets? How is the situation for women in live music production? Furthermore, there will be presentations of new tools and studies – such as the results of the CEEMID Music Professional Survey for 2019 - and a lot of networking sessions and speed meetings with international representatives of the music industry. Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the friendship between Japan and Austria on August 28, 2019, the two partners NHK group Sanbasō companies (NHK Enterprises and NHK Technologies) and Ars Electronica Futurelab, supported by LIWEST, invited the public to the livestream experience of the Sanbasō performance from TOKYO National Theatre at the Ars Electronica Deep Space 8K. LIWEST provided a fiber optic Internet connection with a bandwidth of 1 Gigabit/s for the transmission. Sanbasō is one of the oldest traditional dances in Japan. Its roots go back to Japanese mythology: for 1300 years it has been used to honour the five grains that symbolize wealth and understanding. Over the centuries, dance has been developed and refined along with the culture of Nohgaku. At the harvest festival, the opening of a Kabuki season or the opening of a new theatre, Sanbasō stands specifically for purification and genesis. In the Tokyo National Theater performance, masters of Nohgaku and Kabuki performed Sanbasō – a rare event. As part of the preparations for the broadcast of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, NHK Group Companies became aware of the Deep Space 8K and the Ars Electronica Futurelab. Since then, several screenings of NHK prototypes and test runs have been realized within this partnership. At the Ars Electronica Festival 2017, for example, a Sanbasō video performance was presented, with an 8K documentary featuring the artists Mansai Nomura and Daito Manabe. “Rendering high-quality 8K content in large VR installations such as the Deep Space 8K remains a challenge,” says Roland Haring, Technical Director at the Ars Electronica Futurelab. “It becomes even more difficult when the content is sent around great parts of the world as an 8K Video Live Stream. For this very reason, however, this project was also a huge opportunity for us to prove the capabilities of the Deep Space 8K infrastructure internationally and further expand it.” With 16 x 9 meter projection screens on walls and floors, laser tracking and 3D animations, the Deep Space 8K, developed by the Ars Electronica Futurelab in 2015, takes media experiences to a new level. At the same time, Deep Space 8K is a sophisticated infrastructure for artists and developers from Ars Electronica’s worldwide network and test environment for joint research with media research partners including NHK. IMMERSIFY Research Program IMMERSIFY is an international research programme around a new generation of immersive media technologies funded by the European Union through the Horizon 2020 programme. The project includes the PSNC – Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (Poland), Spin Digital Video Technologies GmbH (Germany), the Ars Electronica Futurelab (Austria), the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes (France) and the Visualization Center C (Sweden). IMMERSIFY will run until the end of 2020. https://immersify.eu/news/sanbaso-live-stream/ https://ars.electronica.art/ Spin Digital, who supported the Sanbasō 8K livestream, will present a new version of its HEVC solutions for 8K live streaming, HDR conversion, and 8K playback at IBC 2019 at booth 1.F11 (Hall 1) at the Amsterdam RAI. © Ars Electronica – Robert Bauernhansl Vizrt, NewTek and NDI under the umbrella brand of Vizrt Group Together, the brands provide access to a comprehensive platform of IP-based, software-defined visual storytelling solutions. This is made accessible to customers by expert in-house teams of professional services consultants, account managers and customer success managers. NewTek is committed to working with its channel partners to meet the needs of the end user and the brand’s route to market will be 100% through its indirect channel. NDI, the digitally native, IP-based, video connectivity standard will now be positioned under the umbrella brand of Vizrt Group. This will afford the NDI brand an increased degree of focus and autonomy, enabling it to deliver more value to NewTek and Vizrt customer solutions, as well as those of third-party partners.” Vizrt and NewTek will be together at IBC2019.
