in a news nutshell

in a news nutshell zurück zum Inhalt © Iwan Baan, www.iwan.com The World Masters of Projection Mapping January 14 until February 9, 2018, Amsterdam A new competition dedicated to showcasing the finest in projection mapping has been launched as a cooperative venture between Amsterdam Light EYE Festival, Integrated Systems Events and the RAI Amsterdam. The event will feature artists projecting videos onto two 40m x 15m water screens placed in front of the EYE Filmmuseum. Each video sequence (which will include audio on selected days) will start with the water projection, the screens then dropping down for the rest of the architectural mapping to take place on the EYE. The challenge for the artists will be to create a work of video art to be mapped onto the extraordinary three-dimensional architecture of the EYE Filmmuseum, to be experienced from multiple viewpoints. The projection mapping will be fully visible for the public from boats sailing on the IJ, the quay near Central Station and the Amsterdam Tower. The competition will also be streamed in HD, live on the Internet. Work from five competing artists will be shown on the facade of EYE Filmmuseum. The creativity of the finalists will be showcased on February 8, when a panel of judges will decide upon the overall winner of the competition. The following day, which is the final day of ISE 2018, the overall winner will be announced at the RAI Amsterdam as part of an exclusive event. This will include presentations from all five finalists and a unique insight into the creative and technological expertise. The winning entry and those of the finalists will be projected onto the EYE Filmmuseum during the Friday evening after ISE 2018 has finished. www.iseurope.org/world-masters-projection-mapping/ Amsterdam Light Festival November 30, 2017 until January 21, 2018 The annual cultural winter event exhibiting tailormade light artworks on the canals transforms again into the largest open-air light museum, featuring more than 40 artworks and installations from artists, © Janus van den Eijnden Amsterdam Light Festival 2016: ARCO, Teresa Mar designers and architects from around the world. For the first time, artworks will be shown at Marine Terrein, from 14 December 2017 until 7 January 2018. This outdoor exhibition area is within walking distance from Amsterdam Central Station. With this year´s theme ‘Existential’ Amsterdam Light Festival wants to stimulate visitors to think about what unites people and what role light plays in this context. Among the artworks there is a special light artwork of the world-renowned artist and activist Ai Weiwei, who questions the concept of borders by creating a seven kilometres long light line representing a border through the city of Amsterdam. Like every year, the festival can be admired on both water and land. The water exhibition presents a large amount of light artworks on the Amsterdam canals. Various canal companies offer boat tours along these light artworks. The artworks are lit daily between 17.00 and 23.00 (until 20.00 on New Years Eve). The light artworks in this exhibition and the special historic area, at walking distance of Amsterdam Central Station, can be explored at visitors‘ own initiative. www.amsterdamlightfestival.com www.facebook.com/AmsterdamLightFestival ISE 2018 Integrated Systems Europe February 6 – 9, RAI Amsterdam www.iseurope.org Photo+Adventure + Film+Video November 11 – 12, 1017, Vienna Known as not only the biggest photo fair in Austria but also in the German speaking market besides photokina and as special-interest fair related to individual and adventure travel, outdoor and nature experience, Photo+Adventure Vienna has been attracting more than 20.000 visitors. Due to changes in the markets and the convergence of technologies different topics from the segment of the moving picture have already been emerging within the Photo+Adventure Fair over the last years. This will peak in a new area, a special theme within the fair in 2017. This area will cater to professionals, semiprofessionals and prosumers alike. Exhibitors will show the newest products in Vienna, among them a lot of highlights introduced at IBC Amsterdam in September, e.g. the new Panasonic EVA1, flowtech 75, the latest cinema and pro video cameras from Canon and Sony, intercom, rigs, LED-walls, cine lenses, zooms, drones, camera support and much more, with hands-on in a dedicated touch & try zone accompanied by a special program with lectures and talks. www.photoadventure.at/englisch/ + + + + + 11th Ethnocineca International Documentary Film Festival Vienna May 4 – 10, 2018, Votiv Kino Vienna As Austria’s film festival for ethnographic and documentary film, Ethnocineca is dedicated to diverse realities of everyday human life. Call for Films The festival is looking for films of any length and approach that make accessible the diversity, uniqueness as well as the commonalities of social and cultural life worldwide, while narrating this view critically and innovatively. In addition to the general program, in which all films run out of competition, there are four competition sections. This year’s program will focus on the question ‘Whose Story is it?’. This focus deals with questions of representation, representation of interests, participation and authorship in storytelling by and about humans in the context of democratic politics and media theory. In documentary films that are dedicated to human life, the negotiation of different viewpoints becomes crucial. The central question is: Whose story is told by whom and how (and whose story isn’t)? The festival especially encourages the submission of films that address controversial and current social and political subjects, films that make use of collaborative methods of storytelling, consciously deal with questions of authorship and power structures within documentary representation of other’s lifeworlds or that have been made by persons concerned/ protagonists themselves (indigenous media). Submission Deadline: December 1, 2017 www.ethnocineca.at MEDIA BIZ
